Magical garden show12/30/2023 The garden was visited by thousands of people over the four days of the festival. This involved putting in place the structure, the water feature, plants and different creative elements such as a garden bench, bird box, mason bee house, hedgehog house and of course the secret key. With the help of parents and siblings and the expertise of Mr Holt, Mrs Daniel, Mr Boss, Mr Batchelder Mrs Bousfield and Mrs Appleby, the garden came to life over the May Bank holiday weekend in preparation for the show. There were tulips, sweet alyssum, hostas, grasses, bamboo, iris, strawberries, lettuce, herbs as well as more ornamental plants. Plants had to be grown, some from cuttings or seed and others carefully chosen all to reflect those described in the secret garden. With the assistance of our Art department, Tom McElhannan designed and made a clay 3D face impression inspired by a green man. Pru also carved the iconic robin which features heavily in the book. Further items of note included metal sculptures of a squirrel and a pheasant made by Pru Goodison and Roxanne Freely. With the amazing Design and Technology department, the gardeners built a full-size wall with an automatic opening door which is activated by finding the special key. This was one of Margaret’s favourite books as a child. The book chosen was “The Secret Garden” as nominated by our pastoral secretary Margaret Sturdy who also works very closely with our charity committee. The theme for this year’s garden was ‘bring your favourite book to life’. This was put together and edited by Year Seven pupils Sophie Maggs and Daisy Mees. They also had to create a vlog to support their work and show their involvement. If the visitor has no mobility of the upper limbs, he or she cannot use this equipment. What an amazing weekend at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival! The weather was fantastic and the transformation of a piece of grass into a ‘Secret Garden’ was, in a word, awesome!ĭuring Thursday lunchtimes over the last six months, members of the RGS Gardening Club have been working hard to design and ready plants for their garden at the show. If the visitor’s wheelchair is not suitable for combination with the swisstrac, we recommend the use of the wheelchair provided at the event. This equipment, despite being compatible with most of the models, is not universal. The visitor can use the equipment during 1h30m, with a 15m tolerance to return to the agreed delivery place. However, if it is the visitor’s preference, he/she may use the wheelchair provided by an assistant. The assembly time for the manual wheelchair traction equipment is around 20 minutes, so the visitor will have to arrive early for the assembly. If you have not already done so, it will be subject to availability. In addition, we also have available at the event, under reservation, the swisstrac equipment – a traction vehicle to aid the mobility of people moving in manual wheelchairs – which allows the routes to be done with less effort, more quickly and safely. In order to achieve this, visits were made to the route to ensure that it can be visited by the greatest diversity of visitors possible, including the placement of ramps, if necessary, ensuring a comfortable and safe night time experience. The Magical Garden Aladdin event had as one of its concerns to be more accessible.
